After breakfast, we drove about 35 minutes (23 miles) to the Kilkee Cliff Walk, where Jason dropped us off and picked us up at the end. It was another beautiful cliff walk, really as nice as the Cliffs of Moher. The walk was about 1 mile or so along the ocean to the Diamond Rocks Cafe.

We then drove to the ferry in Killimer, about 25 minutes (15 miles) away, taking the ferry to the Tarbert landing.

We drove about 40 minutes to Tralee for lunch. We ended up just having some tea and croissants and snacks we had with us. Tralee is famous for its rose garden and the Rose of Tralee International Festival. It takes its inspiration from a 19th century ballad about a woman called Mary, who was called the “Rose of Tralee” for her beauty.

We then drove 15 minutes to the West Kerry Sheepdog Demonstration in Derrymore West, for an amazing demonstration of sheep herding and a chance to feed and hold baby lambs. Sadly, Ireland sheep wool market is depressed because of merino wool imports and clothing. We also got to see traditional drumming and wood dancing toy demonstration. Lambs are raised mostly for meat at this point. The sheep dogs are also used in very competitive sheep herding competitions.

We then drove about 30 minutes to Lake Annascaul for a gorgeous hike (away from the lake) of 2.4 miles total out and back.

Carnivorous common butterwort (Pinguicula vulgaris).

The walk is in purple— you can see where it is in relation to Dingle..

We stopped at the famous South Pole Inn, home of the famous Tom Crean, South Pole explorer.

Finally we headed to the Dingle Harbor Hotel in Dingle, about 25 minutes away. After relaxing, we had dinner at John Benny’s Pub and ice cream at Murphy’s Ice Cream.

Second day drive.
