We blogged our last trip to Singapore here. We flew to Singapore: Boston → Newark → Narita (Tokyo) → Singapore

Singapore:

We got in around 1 am on Sunday, and worked our way through immigration, luggage, and customs. We picked up Starhub SIM — for some reason a SingTel SIM would not work. We also picked up pre-loaded E-Z link passes for public transport.

We took a taxi to Changi Cove, about 15 minutes from the airport, and were asleep around 3 am, and up around 9 for breakfast.

We decided to spend some time on the first day wandering around the Changi Village area rather than going directly downtown. This area which is north and little west of the airport has a boardwalk and beach park and the village itself. We walked for about 5 minutes to the Changi Point Coastal Walk, then over to Changi Beach, then Changi Village. We then walked back to hotel by way of the road, finding a couple of the heritage trees — but could not spot the others on the list.

The Boardwalk.

Looking back as we walked along at the water’s edge.

Classic-looking hawker center.

Walking back along Netheravon Road, we came upon this bit of history, a “bungalow” built in 1927 by Manasseh Meyer. It was sold in 1933 and now is the Civil Service Club since 2015. Meyer also built the Chesed-El Synagogue at Oxley Rise in 1905.

Getting back to Changi Cove, we cooled off and relaxed in lobby with cold drinks.

We took Uber to Yotel Singapore, which is on Orchard Road at the intersection of Scotts Road. This area is very upscale with enclosed, multi-level shopping malls everywhere, with middle to very high-end stores, with food courts/food stores and housewares on the lowest level.

The Yotel has been open a few months. It’s based on airplane-style design. We had a very small “cabin” (queen premium). There are also larger suites. There are lots of packed-away features. The bathroom includes toilet and rain shower in the same space, with drains. The vanity is in the room. There is a business nightstand, safe, and refrigerator on on side of the bed, with a flip-down desk below the TV across from the foot of the bed.

Oh, and yes, they have 2 robots that will deliver non-food items to your door. I wonder how they knock?

We did some food shopping at Fair Price, planning to mostly eat breakfast in the room before Larry goes off to his meetings.

We met Joe Ruffles (SD WAN guy) and headed to Clarke Quay for a encore dinner at Bayang Balinese Cuisine. We shared the Supreme Platter of whole crispy fish, grilled chicken, grilled squids, grilled prawns, chicken skewers.

Then we collapsed in bed.
