A little background on our trip to Tenerife and Rome. While waiting on the date for the MEF (the standards organization Larry consults for) meeting in Rome, our kids in Pittsburgh (Matt, Diana, grandsons Seth and Morris) informed us they were planning to go to London and Tenerife for their April vacation, finally using up their British Air tickets from March 2020. As luck would have it, the Rome trip was scheduled for right after Tenerife, so we decided to go to Tenerife and then travel from there to Rome, a thirteen day trip all together. We cobbled together our flights -- Icelandair to Tenerife (through Reykjavik), Ryanair to Rome, and then Aer Lingus to Boston (through Dublin).

Tenerife is the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands, with an area of 785 square miles, and located west of Morocco. It's dominated by Mt. Teide, a dormant volcano that is Spain's tallest peak and sits in the 73 square mile park in the middle of the island. The driving circumference is about 223 miles, with the major roads TF-1 and TF-5 accounting for all but about 23 miles. The beach resort area is in the south with the capital city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the north.
